About Us
North Shore’s new zero-waste op shop
We're an op shop that lives and breathes its values — from the way we run our business to what happens to every single item that comes through our door.
Why Shop With Us?
We’re proudly Zero Waste
Op shopping has always been a fun, affordable way to shop but at Zero Waste Charity Store, we’re serious about sustainability as well.
We treat every donation as a resource with potential that has yet to be realised. When something comes to us, we do our best to find the value in it — whether that's putting it on the shelf, mending it in our Repair Space, or upcycling it into something new.
Recycling and landfill disposal are always a last resort for us, and when we do have to throw something out, we find the most ethical and responsible way. That's not the case everywhere, but it’s a core part of our kaupapa.
We’re a social enterprise
We care about what happens to textile waste, broken things, and precious materials and we extend that care to our community.
We pay a living wage to all our staff, rather than relying on volunteer labour, creating jobs for locals and enabling careers with purpose.
We're part of Localised, a social enterprise that operates community recycling centres across the motu. Every site in the Localised whānau is a community hub where we make sure everyone feels welcome, safe and included.
Where does the
money go?
As the commercial arm of Zero Waste Aotearoa, we pay an annual dividend to support their work — advocating for systemic change and a zero waste future for Aotearoa.
A percentage of every sale supports Fair Food, the charity that redistributes surplus kai to people and communities across Tāmaki Makaurau. We chose to partner with Fair Food because their zero waste kaupapa aligns with ours. Taking care of the planet means helping people and communities to thrive.
Volunteer or Work with us
